Distributors reveal their bets for 2024 and believe in growth in moviegoing audiences

Given this recovery scenario, distributors expect the growth trend to continue in 2024. Portal Exibidor spoke with some of the main distributors operating in Brazil about their plans.

January is drawing to a close, but it's leaving a positive impression on the Brazilian film industry. President Lula sanctions Screen Quota for national productions in cinema and on Pay TV
The beginning of 2024 began with the confirmation of long-awaited news for the entire Brazilian film industry: the screen quota for national productions in cinemas and on pay TV was sanctioned yesterday (15) by President Lula. Present at the signing were: Margareth Menezes, Minister of Culture; Joelma Gonzaga, Secretary of Audiovisual; Márcio Tavares, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Culture; and Alex Braga, President and Director of Ancine. Bill No. 5,497/19 recreated the quota for commercial exhibition of Brazilian works in cinemas, which is valid until December 31, 2033. In its 96th annual Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has already announced its films for this year's Oscars. Unsurprisingly, given that it has been racking up wins and nominations at other awards shows, Universal's "Oppenheimer" was the most-regarded film, with 13 nominations. Disney's "The Little Mermaid" and Paramount's "Killers of the Flower Moon" rounded out the top three with respective nominations in eleven and ten categories.
The transition from 2023 to 2024 has given the Brazilian film industry plenty to be excited about. Much of this is due to the excellent campaign that "My Sister and I" (Paris Filmes) has enjoyed since its commercial debut on December 28th. With over 750,000 tickets sold, the film is expected to surpass the one million-viewer mark in the coming days. Marcio Fraccaroli, CEO of Paris Filmes, spoke with Portal Exibidor.
