Expocine 2024, the leading film event in Latin America, will feature state-of-the-art technology in the convention's largest room. Located in the Cine Marquise, Sala Barco will host Expocine Decupa, the opening and closing ceremonies, distributor presentations, and new film screenings. The event will take place from October 8th to 11th in São Paulo.
The venue, with nearly 400 seats, is sponsored by technology company Barco, which recently acquired the entire operation of Cinionic, a company founded in 2018 specializing in premium cinema solutions, particularly state-of-the-art laser projection. The acquisition was completed in late November 2023, and the integration allows Barco to operate in the cinema market with even greater operational efficiency and agility, effectively adapting to market dynamics and customer needs.
Until the last edition of Expocine, Cinionic was the name given to room 1 of Cine Marquise during the event.
Barco will also be responsible for projecting feature films and presentations at the event, using its leading line of laser projection, the Barco Series 4. The Barco SP4K-15C, already used for screenings at the Cine Marquise, will be used for this purpose. Its more vibrant colors, better resolution, and image uniformity ensure excellent programming. The workshop area will also be projected using the Barco SP2K-7 laser projector.
The Barco Room's sound system, meanwhile, is handled by Dolby, with the exquisite Dolby Atmos, which offers the ultimate immersive cinema experience, enveloping viewers in a sound dome. The Expocine24 installation features 48 audio output channels, including 16 ceiling-mounted speakers.
The screen in the room was imported by Harkness, a leading company in the segment. The model used is the Clarus XC, a pearlescent screen renowned for enhancing light, ensuring better distribution. This results in even brighter colors and sharper images.
Dolby Atmos has been gaining more and more fans in Hollywood, with many films being mixed in the format, taking viewers to a new level of experience. This experience is felt by the audience in the theater, a differentiator for exhibitors, who will be able to experience the sound impact of Dolby Atmos up close during Expocine.
" Expocine offers local studios the opportunity to present materials equal to those in Hollywood. In addition to the advantages of the Dolby Atmos sound system, Cine Marquise uses 100% digital audio, with a processor, amplifier and speakers manufactured by Dolby, ensuring the highest possible fidelity and allowing viewers to enjoy films with greater precision and detail, resulting in an unparalleled experience," said Luciano Taffetani, senior sales and partnerships manager for cinema at Dolby Latin America.
The company responsible for integrating all this equipment and operating the projection booth throughout the event, ensuring harmony between sound, projection and image and perfect unfolding of every detail of the program, will be Kelonik, a European integrator with over 40 years of experience in the market.
With a team of technical experts and experienced event professionals, the company is prepared to overcome the common challenges of this type of event, ensuring "maturity, experience and peace of mind to overcome any obstacles that may arise during the event," highlighted Joan Gratacos, general manager of Kelonik in Brazil.
